Preparing for Final Layer of Asphalt Paving

Work Performed, July 31st to August 11th
·         Complete concrete curb & gutter installation
·         Installed concrete sidewalks and driveways
·         Graded roadway prior to paving first layers of asphalt
·         Paved first layer of asphalt pavement
·         Rough grading and topsoil installation behind sidewalks
·         Replaced asphalt driveways as needed.
·         Perform testing of water main system as required per Village requirements

Work Anticipated to be Performed, August 14th to August 18th
·         Make repairs to water main system that were identified in testing
·         Make final adjustments to structures
·         Restore areas damaged to make needed repairs
·         Pave final layer of asphalt

Thank you to all the residents along the roadway that were without access a few weeks back due to the concrete work in front of your homes. Your patience and understanding was greatly appreciated.

The contractor has continued to grade and install topsoil in the areas of landscape restoration; however, the sod will not be installed until mid-September when growing conditions are more favorable.

The final testing of the water main did find a few area that contractor needs to repair. The contractor will be making these repairs and restoring any damaged areas prior to installing the final surface layer of asphalt. With the first layers of asphalt installed, the amount of dust was greatly reduced and a smooth driving surface was provided.

We are hopeful the majority of the construction work will be completed in the next 1-2 weeks with the exception of sod installation.

Concrete Work On-Going. Paving Next Week.

Work Performed, July 24th to July 28th
·         Removed existing concrete pavement
·         Completed roadway excavation and installation of gravel base materials
·         Removed existing concrete sidewalk.
·         Removed existing driveway materials.
·         Poured concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk

Work Anticipated to be Performed, July 31st to August 4th
·         Complete pouring concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk
·         Rough grading of landscape behind concrete sidewalk
·         Fine grading of gravel base materials
·         Pave first layers of asphalt pavement
·         Driveway restorations.

Sections of the concrete sidewalk will be skipped to allow for access to each home during concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk construction. This will allow you to step over the concrete curb & gutter without needing to get over the new concrete sidewalk as well. The concrete can be walked on the day after it is poured, but takes several days prior to driving a vehicle over the new concrete.

Thank you for all your understanding as driveway access has been restricted during concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk construction. Please be assured the Village is committed to ensuring the work is completed as quickly as possible and driveway access is restored as soon as possible. It is anticipated that driveway access will be restored by Friday, August 4th.  Driveway access will be restored once the concrete is properly cured and the first layers of asphalt pavement are installed.

Roadway Excavation to Begin

Work Performed, July 17th to July 21st
·         Completed water service replacements
·         Made final connections to existing water main
·         Abandoned / removed existing fire hydrants and valves no longer in service.
·         Began removing sidewalk in preparation for roadway improvements.

Work Anticipated to be Performed, July 24th to July 28th
·         Perform roadway excavation and installation of gravel base.

The underground utility improvements (water main, storm sewer, sanitary sewer) are now completed.

The next phase of construction will be the roadway reconstruction phase. This phase of construction will consists of removing the existing asphalt pavement, repairing any areas of the existing soil below the pavement that are failing, installing new aggregate base, new concrete curb & gutter, new concrete sidewalks, and asphalt pavement.

As the roadway construction phase has started, access to Parkview Lane will be limited during working hours. As you have been dealing with over the past several weeks, heavy construction equipment and number of workers has made it very difficult to travel along Parkview Lane. Next week during working hours, the contractor will be excavating the entire roadway width to remove the existing pavement and perform the work associated with reconstructing the roadway. We ask that you remove your vehicles prior to working hours, then following work completing for the day, you will have access to your driveways.  During concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk installation, driveway access will be restricted for approximately 7 to 10 days. The Village of Glenview will be hand-delivering letters with exact dates of the driveway and travel restrictions as well as parking options, please be on the look-out for these letters on your front door.

Thanks again for all your patience and understanding. There have been several unforeseen delays, including inclement weather, that have caused this project to last longer than anticipated. The Village and contractor are committed to getting this project done as quickly as possible.
